AFJAC 2008 Voter Handbook
The 2008 presidential election is one of the most important events in our nation's history. The next President of the United States will not only lead our nation through the next four years, but will have the critically important job of determining the balance of the Supreme Court for a generation to come.
Supreme Court Justices and all federal judges make decisions everyday that affect ordinary Americans - determining whether the air we breathe is clean and the water we drink is safe, making sure our workplaces are free from discrimination, and stopping the government from invading our privacy. Just this past term, a third of the Supreme Court's rulings related to these and other important issues were 5 to 4 decisions. With four of the current justices over age 70, the next president has the opportunity to dramatically change the make-up of the Supreme Court. The rights of all Americans hang in the balance as voters head to the polls in 2008, so voters must ensure that the candidate they support is a leader who will nominate independent and fair-minded judges who understand how the law affects ordinary Americans.
Alliance for Justice has established this Web site to provide crucial information about the presidential candidates' clear differences on appointing federal judges. This section of the Alliance for Justice Web site provides online resources for voters hoping to more fully understand the impact of federal judicial nominations, to engage candidates about this issue, and to help other voters to learn more about this critical topic. We believe you will find this information useful as you head to the polls, and we encourage you to pass this link along to your friends.
